The folks over at Educational Technology posted this beautiful flow chart about legal use of images from the web. The questing it really raised for me, though, was wondering how often do teachers take the time to properly credit images on their own sites and (oh boy am I guilty of this one) in their lessons? Now, I know that we could probably justify using uncredited images we drop into powerpoints for that mini-lesson on adjectives, but aren't we missing an opportunity to model ethical behavior to our students. Even if we never mention the cite, some students will notice that it's there. One may even ask about it. Now, I have to go back and make sure I've properly credited all the images on my Weebly site. 'Scuse me. There's a lot of information in this excellent graphic from Terry Heick, director at TeachThought. I like that the focus really isn't on apps, gadgets and gizmos, but on an underlying teaching philosophy. |
